Young Moons

Day 1

22nd March 2004 - this turned out to be the first of a sequence of 4 days

The crescent moon and earthshine through the Tal

The street lights are over exposed here but you can just see Venus up high while the Moon starts to sink into the trees

Here I used the camera on a tripod

Day 2

23rd March 2004

Not a hopeful sky to find a small crescent moon It eventually found a gap Poor photo, through a window, but the great walled plains of Langerus, Vendelinus, Petavius and Furnerius are starting to show. The moon, not in the trees one night later but closer to Venus, above.  Light problems in the West with street lights and main road.

Can you spot the New Moon?

"No-one knows exactly when the new Moon appears as it changes in different parts of the world - particularly important if you want to know when Ramadan starts. So this month, scientists are asking the public to help refine the lunar calendar."
