Viewing from the Backyard

East - rooftops and high trees prevent any early viewing but light pollution not too bad. Moon has to rise some way before clearing the rooftops. South East - lot of security lights, low garage, tree, telegraph pole and wires, higher outbuildings, tall chimney to snare a low-rising moon South - best viewing, little light pollution, but outhouse roof can disturb viewing if the Moon is very low. South West - only for objects high in the sky as there is a row of 3-storey houses in the way!
North East - street light pollution, town lights, not too bad for high stars on dark nights. North - tall, beautiful Lime tree, street lights, town blur, not good viewing!  Can just about see Polaris on a dark night North West, tall houses, street lights, not good viewing - large, high super-duper street  lamp nearby. West - tall houses stop views of Young Moon, have to wait till around day 5 to catch the Moon with the Tal.
